Typhoid fever remains rare in the United States, but cases are increasing. Gaps in vaccinations and emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains reinforce the need for careful attention to the disease, especially among children, according to a presentation at IDWeek 2018, in San Francisco.
These findings come in the form of a first report of a CDC study conducted to review the epidemiology and burden of typhoid fever in U.S children, and the implications of new typhoid vaccines.
